The Third Annual Embrace Your Body presented by The Women’s Hospital is a photo gallery gala that will feature nearly 50 women in our community telling their body story through photography. Everyone has a journey with their body and that journey is ever changing. It is important for us to capture as many stops on this journey as possible, including a variety of faces, places and feelings. These photos will be featured in a one-night Gala at the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana on Saturday, Nov. 12. The images will then be published on our website — projectreveal.org.
Embracing and loving our bodies is a conversation that needs to be ongoing. As we sought models for this project, I was shocked by the number of women of all sizes who felt empowered to participate. Some expressed confidence in their bodies; others said doing it was the first step in accepting themselves.
We can look in the mirror and love what we see and the next day mentally tear it apart. Our body journey ebbs and flows, but we can stand together and remind each other that we are not alone, and empower each other to try to love ourselves.

Project Reveal is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower and give strength to women and girls through our television series on PBS and events and programs targeted to women and girls. Our goal is to talk about tough topics, break stereotypes, validate people’s feelings and create connections with women by telling their stories.
We decided to expand it this year to include an all-day event Saturday at the Franklin Street Bazaar.
We have paired six high school and college-aged girls interested in photography with a photographer mentor. The girls spent a Saturday photographing two young girls randomly selected from more than 120 who applied to participate. They worked with their photographer to tell their story of what makes them feel beautiful through photography.
This is a great opportunity to encourage the next generation to focus on self-esteem and positive body image.
We are excited to see how these photos turn out. They will be printed gallery-style and will be displayed as part of our Girls: Embrace Your Body Event on Nov. 12. Some may even be a part of the Embrace Your Body gala that same evening.
